Agonizing gas?

I had a drink last night of beer and I'm now paying.

I'm usually okay with 1 drink, but last night I started getting AGONIZING abdominal pains. Worse than anything I've had before. I also felt nauseous and then started burping. I didn't know that much gas would fit in me! It got worse if I lay down, like the gas was trying to force it's way out of my tummy. Needless to say, I've had very little sleep and now feel like death. The pains aren't as frequent, but it's not good.

Weirdly, if I drink ANYTHING it gets worse, so I've only been able to sip at my tea. Any ideas for what to do? I'm shattered.

Just ride it out Linz! Go back to Breaking the Cycle for a couple days while your digestive system settles down.

Did you at least get to enjoy some of it? I miss drinking too sometimes.. especially when I'm the only one in my group of friends who can't touch the stuff!

Linz, I'm sorry to hear about how you're feeling! Beer has never settled well with me either, even pre-IBS. I agree, all you can really do is break the cycle for a few days. I hope your tea helps and you start feeling better soon!

Hope you start feeling better soon. Try to keep moving around so the gas will keep coming out instead of getting trapped, that will only make it worse!

Next time you HAVE to have a drink, try a small glass of wine. I can get away with the wine because there is far less carbonation than the beer. Two glasses over an evening once in a while is fine for me. Hope you enjoyed yourself last night at least!

Hi Linz - Hope you're feeling better soon.

Try some of the yoga poses for gas - check here web page

And if you have fennel tea on hand, just chew a small bit of the seeds (if you don't want to swallow them just spit out). That will get you the benefits without actually having to drink the tea.

Neither! For me, it's Jack Daniels! Yep -- it calms me, relaxes me, I forget I have IBS altogether, and I feel GOOOOOD.

I remember an old TV aerobics show that I used to LOVE -- one of the first -- Joanie Greggains! I taped it every day and I'd do the tapes a LOT. She was not only good, but she made me laugh. One thing she did was lie on the floor on her back, pull her knees up to her chest and wrap her arms around them, then roll back and forth (not sideways). She said, "This is what you do when you go to someone's house for dinner and end up with indigestion. They'll get the message!" Try it -- it WORKS!

I like Michele can have a glass of wine with out any bothersome. Have tried beer in the past but like you thought I'd die from all the gas. Not sure if it was the yeast or carbonation(if there is gas ) but man oh man... Did you drink this on an empty tummy? Hope you feel better!! Sue

Sadly alcohol has become a game of roulette for me. One night I can have a drink and I'm fine. Some other night I have a drink and I will wish I was dead for the following 48 hours. I'm just not touching the stuff ever again.
