Going to Peru, how will I eat?

I will be taking a 10-day whirlwind trip of Peru - and I've never left the country before. I've grown dependent on my local health food store and own cooking, and I've read in the guidebook that Peruvians like to cook with lots of eggs, milk, and cheese. We are backpacking, so while I plan to take some food, I doubt I'll be taking the whole 10 day supply. Ideas from any veterans? Thank you!

Unfortunately, I don't have any outstanding Peru-specific advice for you, I just wanted to say that my husband and I are planning a trip to Peru next year and I've been worrying about the exact same thing!
One thing I can say, we did England and France last year and some of their foods are notorious for being rich and greasy. What we did for many meals (lunches, specifically), was just purchase food at little grocery stores. That way I could buy baguettes (yum!) and bananas and pretzels and whatnot and ensure that I would be safe.
Are you going to hike Machu Picchu??

We are hiking Piccu! And taking precautions against altitude sickness, too!
Thank you for your help...I guess I'll just bring as much safe food as I can carry!
