If I have some digestive enzymes before a meal is that the same as having soluble fibre? I can't seem to find a decent soluble fibre supplement here. Is it crucial to have that?

Digestive enzymes are not the same as SF. In fact some digestive enzymes are made from ground up plant material that is high in IF.
Benefiber made with hydrolysed guar gum is available in Australia. Check with your chemist or local health food store. However, be careful to stay away from the SFS that contain psyllium and inulin. See Heather's page on SFS for more information.
By the way, I don't take any SFS. I get all of my SF from my diet.

Yeh I'd prefer to do it the diet way like you. But how do I know how much is enough?
What do you have before or with each meal to ensure you'll be ok, Syl? P.S Thanks a lot for your help.

About 8 years ago the there was a change in the definition of fiber. You can read more about the changes to the definition of fiber in this message. Now resistant starches found in things like rice, oatmeal, potatoes, beans and pasta which act like SF are included in the definition of fiber. Here is a brief article on resistant starches. Unfortunately, food manufacturers are not required to report the amount of resistant starch on the food label.
I get my SF by having oatmeal for breakfast and at least 1/2 cup of rice, pasta, potatoes or other resistant starch containing foods with each meal.
I hope this helps
