What is a reasonable time frame to expect bloating to resolve?

I have been following Heather's diet for 2 1/2 weeks along with using Acacia Tummy Fiber and Fennel Tea. I am doing my best to stick to the diet strictly, although I find at times I miss something and end up eating something I shouldn't (i.e. things with HFC or sucralose - sometimes this is all very confusing to me). To date, there has been no relief with the tremendous bloating I have had for the past 1 1/2 years. Perhaps I need to be more patient, but can someone give me a reasonably fair estimate of the time frame for how long I should continue this to know if it is going to work or not?

Well I have been on the diet nearly four years and haven't resolved my 15 years of bloating every day. There has to be some answer I haven't come up with yet.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I believe mine went away after 6-12 months on the diet. It still happens now and then after about 3 years, but now I can usually pinpoint the reason.

Not exactly the answer I wanted to hear - but at least it's nice to know I am not the only one experiencing this problem.
I have had chronic constipation all my life, but the severe bloating began immediately after I had a complete hysterectomy a year and half ago. Does anyone have any insight on the connection between a hysterectomy and severe bloating? My doctors say there is no connection.

I tried the Atkins Diet from 2003 to 2004. I know Heather's thoughts on Atkins, and I can certainly understand where she is coming from considering all the fat, red meat, and cheese involved, but I swear to God that it completely, 100% resolved my bloating and gas. It DID seem to make my C a little worse, but the D actually improved somewhat. The only reason I stopped doing it was because it inevitably became extremely boring to eat nothing but meat, cheese, and vegetables.
Bloating and gas is caused by the fermentation of undigested carbohydrates in the intestines. It stands to reason that a diet very low in carbohydrates would reduce that – and it does. After I gave up the Atkins Diet, my gas and bloating returned full force. Then, about a year ago, I read that the only carbohydrate that does NOT cause bloating and gas is rice. After I read that, I switched to eating Rice Krispies in the morning instead of other breakfast cereals, and my gas again improved dramatically (not as much as it did on Atkins, but enough that it at least stopped causing me pain during the day, which was good enough for me!)
I say if gas and bloating is such a huge problem for you, try replacing some of your carbs with rice, and reduce things like pasta, bread, corn, cereal grains, and even potatoes. Or at least save those items for later in the day, since it takes 4-5 hours for ingested carbs to become gas. Trust me, it works! You'll notice a difference almost right away.
-------------------- IBS-A since age 12, and fructose sensitive; with the exception of my pregnancy, have been following Heather's diet since Nov. 19, 2007.
Taking 12g of Acacia per day. Relatively stable since March 2008!

Thank you Erilyn, I will certainly make sure I use more rice that other carbohydrates. I have already been drinking rice milk, eating rice cereal and having rice often at suppertime - but I have also been eating plenty of bread and potatoes. So hopefully, if I cut some of the bread and potatoes out, I will be on the right track and start to see some improvement. Thanks again for your suggestions.

My partner got a "skinny tummy" overnight when she did one day of fasting and then quit soy. It was really weird

Except I don't think I'm gonna find an answer.
