Jennifer you are too funny. I can't even imagine what you went through. The drugs knock me out and I still don't remember my ride home or even walking into my house. Hope to hear from you today!!!

Hi Jennifer,
Like the rest of us, I was also wondering how things went. Thanks for updating all of us. I took my mom for her colonoscopy last week, and nearly passed out just watching the staff preparing her for the procedure. I guess it brought up my own unpleasant memories.
For me the drugs are the best part! It's kind of like getting high legally. The worst part is always the prep and for me vomitting afterwards due to the meds..yuck!
My GI doctor was able to tell me right after the procedure how everything looked. What did they tell you Jennifer? They must have been able to see or not see anything unusual. Let us know the scoop when you can. Take it easy at mom's..let her spoil you okay?

Thanks Lindsey for posting. For a while I thought I was the only one like this, but little by little I'm seeing there are more of we IBS'ers like that. It has something, I'm sure, to do with the central nervous system but I'm not sure what.... Kandee

I know that since developing the IBS I have a low pain tolerance.
My doctor told my mom that she's noticed a lot of people with IBS have a low pain tolerance.

Thanks everyone! It's not so bad now because I don't remember much (nice drugs.. lol). I do remember asking for more drugs, but my doctor said she had given me all she could. I asked my doctor before the procedure if I could get knocked out, but she said she didn't schedule the right people to come in for that and I'd have to wait. No way I was going to wait and do the prep again! Although the prep part has always been sort of easy for me.
Having problem introducing foods back in, though. I've started with breads, pretzels, and rice - but have had D after eating all of those. Stayed home another day since I also developed a cold so it's back to the working world tomorrow.

Well, she said my stomach had irritation (duh.. I had to pour that nasty laxative stuff down it lol) and she took biopsies and said she'd know the results in a week. I have a follow-up appointment in February unless something comes up in the biopsies. That's all I remember - darn drugs. I keep forgetting to ask my mom what she said. lol

Hi Jennifer, glad to hear that you made it through. When I was reading your story of the procedure it brought back to me the one that I had 16 years ago. I drove myself to the hospital to have it done and was not given any kind of drugs what so ever for it. I wish that they would have done so, it was the most horrible pain that I have felt. After it was done I drove myself home. It is something that I will not go through with ever again. I hope that you feel better soon. Gail

Gail, are you sure it was a colonoscopy that you had? Or was it a sygmoidoscopy? I'm amazed that they would do a colonoscopy on anyone without some form of anesthesia. I am SOOOOO sorry for you -- and for everyone whose stories are posted here. I'm grateful that mine was such a piece of cake -- actually a pleasurable experience -- and now there's "virtual colonoscopy" (see Heather's Dec. newsletter, just out). Just think -- when we're all dead and gone, there'll be some kind of pill that'll take away ALL IBS symptoms instantly, and everyone will look back and say, "remember when . . . . . . " Bev

Hi Bev, I looked on the internet to see what the difference between the two of them was. I had the colonoscopy, that is the one that goes farther in. I was on the table for over an hour and my doctor and one male nurse was there. (which I thought was weird) It was the worst thing that I have ever gone through. I guess that medicine has come a long way since then. I have not gone back to that doctor since I got my results from the test back. I have a new one now, and I told my GP about this site and what it is about and she was happy to hear that there is somewhere that we can go to get more help and support. I don't know what I would have done if I had not found this site and the wonderful people on here. It has been a God send for me. Gail

Well, it's been proved that people with IBS have low pain thresholds in their guts (the balloon test) so I figure that this applies to the whole nervous system. It sure sucks!
