hi all !! i have just been for a food sensitivity test (that i had to save up for cause doc wouldnt do one) Anyway he said straight off the first things that stood out aws milk yoghurt cheese i have a definate sensitivity to those - but and this is where it got interesting i had a definate soya sensitivity and mushroom oh and cumin :O/ So soya milk and soya custard and soya yogs are all out for me so are alot of quorn and alot of dairy fre products have soya or soya lecithin in so there out too - no wonder i was still ill when swapping from milk to soya products - but rice dream milk is still ok wooppeee !! He said the other reason why quorn prob racted with me is cause alot of veggie food is made from mushroom stuff to bind - so thats out - he also recommended i took some acidophillius (if spelt right) and showed me one that was dairy and soya free as alot of them have soya in too - ok its £15 but surely its worth it !! god if i had of gone to him months ago !! anyway i wanted to let you in on my find next step now is to relay this all to doc and see what she says !!

they were done at holland and barrat the health food shop - a trained dietitiona nd nutritionist used a small machine by which he read the energy levels in my body when connecting it with certain food types (81 diff food types to be exact) i have checked it out before and he is always fully booked i was suprised i got in to be honest i tried before xmas but he was completely full all day - he only comes to the store on certain days once a month!

It was probably a vega machine. Check these BBC and NYU Medical Center articles.

hi - thanks for that i have read it and the comments below it also - seems to eb some sort of 50/50 thouhts on it doesnt there ? but then who is 100% sure on anything we get told these days - thing is with me is i have badgerred doctors for years now and i think they really are sick of seeing me now and take anything i say with a pinch of salt now ! i am concerned at moment about my overies as i have had pain right lower down in my overie area and whilst they have told me this is ibs im not sure - so i get very stressed and worked up over the fact that my doc just does not want to help !! i feel like im waiting for my time to be up up because they jsut wont test for anything else ! i know thats silly but they wont even refer me to a gastro specialist at the hospital because they say they dont need to :O/ so i am fighting a loosing battle really !! Whilst i know these tests cant 100% accurat its the only thing i cant afford to do as i cant afford to see another gp privatly or any other person i am living on disability allowance becuse i lost my job over this and i just dont know what else to do ??? if anyone has any ideas then i would be greatful - i have been told to be forceful with the docs but u try that when ur sat on ur own with anxiety and depression and having a doc tell u there is nothing wrong with you - its really hard !!

Hi there!
I wouldn't mind getting this test done. What is it called and how is it all done and cost etc?

Thanks and God BlesS!

If you want food sensitivity tests done then talk to your GP about a referral to an allergist. The food sensitivity tests they give in stores using machines like the vega machine are not reliable.

I understand your desparation, but if the tests aren't valid and reliable, then they are useless. You are ommiting or not ommiting foods that a fake test tells you? No offense, but that seems to me like putting a list of foods in a hat and pulling out a few random pieces and deciding to not eat those foods.

I honestly don't mean to sound harsh, but it gets me upset when people make money off of sick people making them believe in things that aren't valid.

Okay, that's my 2 cents.

i do understand what you are saying about these tests - but as a single mum on no money what so ever because of my illness i cannot afford to get any other testing done ! My doctor will not refer me on the NHS in the uk because "it costs too much money" they would rather you did it by process of illimination however i am in so much pain that last night i took myslf to the emergency dept at the local hospital at 2am because i was in so much pain high up in my stomach i thought i had a stomach ulcer !! The docs have done a barium enema and they are more or less point blank refusing to do anymore tests because they think its all down to my anxiety and depression but as i said to them i wasnt bloody depressed before all this started !!!!
ANyway i also notice that this advert of your from the BBC is dated back in 2003 5 years ago next month and being from the uk and knowing how the bbc report there is no way on this earth they would let these people carry on trading and doing what they are doing if they were proven to be a load of old tosh !! and like i said 5 years is a long time for these things to move on and he wasnt really telling me anything that i didnt already know i havent touched milk yoghurt and cheese as straight forms for 6 years now although i havent till now checked every single label. and the soy and mushroom things makes sense because last weekend i had quorn burgers which are made of mushroom and soy and then i had soy custard and i had terrible gas and bloated for two days so it all does sense.

Im not trying to be dificult or row with you not atall and i do totally understand what you are saying - i really do but like jordy said i am ill and i will do whatever i can to try and change how i am because right now i struggle to even take my daughter to school !!! surely its gotta be worth a try !! im sure everyone else here illiminated foods to try and see if it was them ?????

I understand your frustration. Food intolerances unlike food allergies can only be determined by food elimination diets. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous people who are willing to use unreliable tests to take money from desparate people with diseases and disabilities.

Have you been told by your GP that you have IBS or just anxiety?
