After visits with a colon/rectal specialist and GYN for constipation/rectal issues, tests showed I have a rectocele, along with the uterus and bladder dropping. First started seeing Physical Therapist to help with pelvic floor issues, however GYN doc said no PT therapy would correct my problems. Next month I'm having uterus removed, along with repairing rectocele and bladder. This will hopefully help my constipation and discomfort issues. The 12 hours before surgery I cannot eat/drink and need to clean my bowels out so I am empty. Then with surgery the body is pretty much shut down. (I also believe one of the big issues is getting the bowels to move after surgery). Hopefully I won't need too much in the way of pain meds 'cuz I know they cause constipation. My question is this: After coming out of surgery do I start taking the same amount of Acacia powder as prior to surgery or do I start out at a lower dosage??? I started using Acacia about two months ago and I have really felt the benefits and I hate to think I need to start from scratch. Any suggestions as to what steps to initially take right after surgery to get one's body up and running without putting it in overdrive with gas, etc???? Also, any recommendations as to what to use for pain control that will not cause constipation???

Thanks.

Hi Sharon.

I am lying in bed, 3 day after knee surgery-ACL reconstruction. I told my surgeon that I am prone to constipation due to IBS. They prescribed me laxative but I haven't used it yet. I didn't eat for 2 days because I kept throwing up after surgery but I was able to eat some crackers and small ammount of soup and I had a BM this morning, 2,5 days after surgery. I couldn't take their meds because I was vommiting so much from it, so I take 3-4 Ibuprofens every 4-5 hours and the pain is bearable. I hope this helps a little.

Tatyana.

Hi Tatanya:

I'm so sorry to hear how miserable it's been or you. A few years ago I had bunnion surgery.....after the meds wore off, I thought I would die...I think everyone and every surgery is different. As you are prone to constipation as well as I am, do you take acacia powder??? If so, are you back taking it already and are you able to get down the tons of water like we C's should be doing??? Also glad to hear you had a BM...that's a biggie after surgery. Take care and hope you are doing better really soon.

Sharon

Thanks. Not taking any fibers, just eating soft foods and apples. Acacia gives me breakouts. I do drink lots of liquid but have a weak bladder that everything comes rushing down out of me. Thanks.
