It can be cause by foods such as fiber, soy, fruits, beans, lactose, fructose, sorbitol, additives and many other food stuffs. Also, it can be caused by disease and organic disorders.

Thanks Syl. I've never been the kind of gal that gets bloated or gets cramps, even during that time of the month, and so I didn't know what to compare what I was feeling to. I'd often ask folks what exactly is it that happens when bloating occurs: is there something inflating in my tummy, is my tummy simply being filled with air, etc. After reading that third link, it is in fact the "inflation" of the intestines against the abdominal wall.

Here's another question. Do you feel relief when you pee? I noticed that while I'm urinating, I don't feel it coming out. Well, I do feel it but it feels as if I'm squeezing my vagina to limit the amount that's coming out (sort of what you would do so that someone can't hear you pee). Sorry for the TMI. I also feel that I'm not comletely urinating all that I can because within 10 minutes, I have to go pee again and everytime feeling as if I'm not completely emptying my bladder.

I don't know what causes gas but my doctor told me to take Digestive Advantage Gas Defense Formula (found at your local drug store). I have been taking this for about 2 months and I found that it does help. Be careful you don't take more than 1 tablet a day. At first I started taking 2 and it was making me sick. When I cut back to one a day it really started helping. It is a probiotic specifically for gas. I hope this helps.

In general, when do you think the best time is to take gas-relief supplements? I know that Beano and GasStop are suggested to be taken immediately before eating, but what about Gas-x? I also have just started trying fennel seed capsules...anyone take them and when? Do you see a difference? How many capsules/mg per dose?

Also, a related gas question...bloating and gas can of course be uncomfortable, but what about the gas that has a REALLY foul smell? I keep trying to pinpoint which food is the culprit when this happens. Sometimes the smell is unbearable and so unladylike.

I don't take gas-relief tablets so I can't offer any help with that.

But the second part.. for me, dried fruit is a definite culprit. So I steer clear!
