I think you've already answered this, I can't remember...but have you been tested for Celiac? You might consider it if you haven't been...

How long have you been on probiotics? It might take a while...

PLEASE hang in there! I KNOW it's hard (I'm battling IBS AND other illnesses!)

It WILL get better! Good for you for doing all you can in your power tog et well...

*hugs*

Angel, I do not believe that God burdens us beyond our capacity. A "living hell" is what, to me, Chris Reeves is going through. If you listen to others' problems, I don't really believe you would trade places with them. IBS is what we've been dealt, and how we deal with it determines what we're made of. Think of it as character-building. After all, there is a lot more to us than how pregnant we might look in our loose-fitting maternity pants. If people characterize us by the size of our big bellies, they're not worth our time. While I haven't weighed 110 pounds for over 40 years, I wouldn't want to go back to those days for any amount of weight loss! I am glad I am where I am in life, despite the fact that I look pregnant in my sweat pants. This IBS has made me a much stronger person, and, in fact, brought me and my husband much closer together than we've ever been. No, I would not go back to the days before IBS -- I'm looking forward, not back.

110lbs sounds awful skinny unless yo are only 4'8"!! I understand, I recently lost 40lbs(ok, so I gained back about 8 of it) and it drives me crazy to look in the mirror and see that pregnant looking belly! Mine is so sensative I can't even do the sweats because of the elastic, no matter how many sizes too big I buy them!! Drawsting is the only way to go, I'm ALWAYS in a nightgown at home. It is very hard to stay positive, have you tried any sort of anti-depressants? Not just for the depression but they have also helped me with my IBS, I take Lexapro. I know you said you do yoga but do you get any sort of cardio activity? Again, I know its so hard to exercise when you feel like crap but it also has helped me. I find the more I work out the better I feel! I just started Heathers acacia and peppermint caps about 5 days ago but they do seem to be helping as well. Hang in there!

Yes it's true that what Chris Reeves is going through is hell but what I'm going through is hell too. I don't only have severe IBS. I also have other severe illnessess. Also horrible things have happens to me since I was really young. I can't handle any of it and I never will. I'm glad you can be so positive.

Hi, Michelle! Some great ideas in your e-mail. You're right; I always feel better after a workout, even though I'm in pain during most of it. The elastic in my sweats bothers me also. I'm lucky because I'm a good seamstress, and I make my own pants, so my waistband is very loose. Interesting about the antidepressants. I tried a prescribed antidepressant, but it irritated my tummy. For me, Michael has been the best source of inspiration. I never realized that the mind REALLY controls the body. I'm determined to turn my thinking around so it controls my body the right way. It's a real slow process, just as Michael said, so I'm being patient. I'm interested in the acadia you mentioned; I can't find it at the health food store -- where do you get it? Did you notice any improvement with it? Thanks, Bev.

It took a while for me to find the balance of the right amount of probiotic -- so start by taking one or two capsules twice a day and work your way up to three or four twice a day, if necessary. I would try to make 6 to 8 / day my maximum. Just see how much you need to alleviate your symptoms. I don't think that probiotics are dangerous... but, then again, everything in moderation, right?

I'm only like 5'5 or 5'5 1/2 so 110lbs. is a perfect weight for my height. I haven't tried anti- depressants since the side effects are horrible. If I got them I won't be able to handle them also I couldn't afford them. I already have to spend tons of money on so many things for IBS. The only exercises I can do are stretches, 3 exercises I found in a magazine for bloating and water retention, yoga, sit ups, pilates, and playing with my cat. I can't wear sweatpants since they are so uncomfortable since my tummy is gigantic and super sensitive. I eat Altoids everyday which doesn't help alot. I feel like crap everyday.

Only Heather sells the Acacia, check out the shopping section of this web site. It is very resonably priced, I also ordered the peppermint capsules and take 2 of those a day as well. I pretty much did notice right away an improvement. I just made another post that said I am IBS C but because I take miralax I often have painful D(painful D was prefered over not pooping at all!)Since I added the acacia and peppermint capsules may stools are formed, still soft but much more "normal" I also haven't been as bloated or gassey and haven't had any cramping!!! Right now I'm taking 1 1/2 heaping spoons a day I'm going to try and increase that while decreasing the miralax and hope for the best!

Its great that your hubby is so supportive! Mine tries to be but he just doesn't understand, if he hasn't pooped by 9am he is crying he is constipated and his tummy is sore! I still Love him and he really does try!

Michele, did you read the e-mail from PeterT regarding the antidepressant brownies HE made for his wife who has IBS? Talk about a supportive spouse! WOW! Ya gotta read that e-mail (it's in the IBS Recipes section under the heading "Antidepressant Brownies"); this guy's a keeper! (And you're right -- so is mine. I'm a very lucky gal. He just took me out to lunch and wouldn't order coffee because he knows I'm trying to go cold turkey with it.) Thanks, I ordered the acacia from Heather. I'm going to have to start with low doses 'cause my Citrucel is so low (Heather said it's comparable to a piece of toast!). I'm so grateful for this web site, for Michael's CD, and for Heather -- I've gotten so much better and I'm feeling so much more positive (and a lot less full of self-pity). I just received my new self-hypnosis CD, "Learn How to Think Positively," I just KNOW I'm gonna get better! Thanks again, Michele!
