I ate some marshmallows by themselves this weekend and found they caused a good deal of bloating and upset stomach- here's the main ingredients
corn syrup, sugar, cornstarch, gelatin, dextrose
Anyone else have this problem and if so, why, do you think?

It's probably the dextrose. Most of the sugar ingredients ending with -ose cause me problems (fructose, glucose, dextrose, etc.) I've been able to handle marshmallows, but I buy a generic brand without the dextrose.

Glucose and dextrose is the same thing, and it's what is used as energy source in the cells. I didn't know anyone could be sensitive to this (unless possibly if you get an abnormal amount of it).

I absolutely cannot tolerate gelatin - in anything, even vitamins with it bother me! I haven't roasted mallows since I was 16-17 .

Marshmellows should be treated, at least in my view, as a 50/50 food. Eat ONLY when feeling good and always in SMALL portions with a GOOD buffer. If you have a nice dinner, maybe sandwiched between Graham Crackers.
