I have been trying to figure out which hot cereal I can eat, that would fall under the soluble fiber category and therefore safe for IBS-C, and I am very confused. Which of these products are ok, if any? Cream of Buckwheat Cream of Wheat Quaker Organic Oatmeal Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal Heartland Oatbran Any other recommendations you can give? I really enjoy hot cereal in the morning!

Cream of Wheat and Quaker Organic Oatmeal are mostly SF and therefore safe to eat alone.
Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal is as well, but the cut of the oats - very chunky - makes it a little more difficult for some people to digest. Your mileage may vary, though, so if you love it, give it a try and see how you do.
Heartland Oatbran - insoluble fiber. I would avoid eating this one, personally.
Cream of Buckwheat - not sure!

I can't handle oats, so I eat cream of rice cereal every morning. It is definitely SF.

Thank you for your suggestions...I will try the cream of rice and wheat; I haven't decided how the quaker organic oatmeal works for me yet...still debating. What about cottage cheese? Breakstone's has a new 2% live active, with cultures like yogurt does. Is this type of dairy ok? Has anyone tried it?

I eat Erewhon brand (organic) Brown Rice Cream cereal every morning. It is very finely ground (3 minutes to cook or less). You can find it in health food stores. If I can't find that, I buy Cream of Rice.
Cream of Wheat, oats, etc. seem to cause me more problems. Instant oatmeal is OK if I actually cook it for a minute or two, rather that just pouring boiling water over it.
I think the brown rice type is slightly more nutritious that white rice-- and it doesn't cause me problems.

What brand do you buy? My cream of rice is getting hard to find and expensive too. I love Lundberg's creamy brown rice cereal...but HFS have not been ordering it lately. I liked the fact that it was ground up brown rice because white rice everyday would probably make me more C.

I get my brown rice cream cereal from Vitamin Cottage--anyway, it's a bit cheaper than Lundberg, I think. "Erewhon" brand. There's also a new Barley/Rice Cream cereal--but I like the plain brown rice kind best.

I get one from Bob's Red mill which I can now find at my regular grocery store. It's brown rice. He has others too but it depends on what grains you can tolerate.

I buy Nabisco brand. I've been afraid of the brown rice kinds, although I've been doing okay with subbing brown rice for white with my dinners. Can you eat the brown rice hot cereal on an empty stomach?
