Just wondering if any of you IBS-D people out there use acacia and could give a rough estimate about how much you use daily in terms of getting "more stable?" I just upped my dosage to 2 teaspoons a day (I was feeling ok with 1 1/2 before but not great) and had an attack this afternoon. Is this just my body adjusting to the increase? I have definitely been increasing the dosage slowly and following the diet. Any advice/personal experience would be extremely helpful. Thanks!!!!

I'm a D and I use acacia. I take 1.25 t once a day. It's a pretty small amount. Most people seem to need more. Sometimes, with IBS, you can have the occasional attack no matter what. That doesn't mean that you will, only that it can happen.

Could it have been something other than the acacia that gave you the attack?

Well, I have been trying to add a little IF into my diet because I don't want to go the other direction too much and get C (I had an intestinal blockage a month and a half ago from overuse of antidiarrea drugs). So that might be it. And then I checked out the ingredients on these crackers I have been eating for the past two days and noticed that one of the first five ingredients was wheat germ. Is that like whole wheat? And if so could that added IF be part of the trouble? Sorry again for all the questions, I'm just trying to wrap my braing around all the new info.

Sadly, anything can be a trigger for IBS. We have to figure out what are our own personal triggers. While Heather's diet guidelines are generally right on, they are guidelines, not rules set in stone. Yes, added IF can be the problem. But I don't know much about wheat germ. Have you tried keeping a food diary to track what you eat and your symptoms?
