I find lying on my left side on a heating pad really helps. You might want to try that.

Funny. When I have an "episode" my left side (more to the back) REALLY hurts. I have a heating pad that is large enough to wrap around that side while still on my tummy. Definately helps! Can't help but wonder what that's about.

yes, I know and I have the same problem. I love your picture by the way...anyway, I read up on it and the line said that the left side often is the trouble spot for many ibsers...so it probly has something to do with the spastic times of of stomach..maybe? I am no doctor, but it makes sense thanks for your input! time

I have that left side pain too. I believe that's where your sigmoid colon is, where you'd be feeling the spasms and pain. So far heat therapy (I use the disposable patches) has provided the best relief.

Whenever I have bouts of extreme gassiness that gets trapped it feels like my lower left side is being stabbed. The pain spreads in to my back and left thigh and goes from a stabbing feeling to a warm ache as it spreads. It's pretty common with IBS. BeanO and hot baths usually do the trick for me.

Yep, me too. My GI told me that's where the gas gets trapped in the bend when it's coming around and down the sigmoid colon. When that happens, I experience major discomfort.

I'm the same - a bad attack makes my left side ache and I get distended mostly on that side too. I read, but don't know if it is true, for healthy digestion people are supposed to sleep on their right side. Could just be another wives-tale though. (I only sleep on my left.)
All the best!
