So - here I sit literally back to square one. I had been feeling REALLY good. I was only having attacks of D AFTER eating something I knew darn well I shouldn't have eaten (and sometimes not even then). I even went through my entire wedding day and planning - rehearsal and everything without an attack. I was stable to the point where I stopped being SUPER careful with every bite of food that went into my mouth, I actually felt like a "normal" person. I took Xifaxan for a couple of months on the advice of my gastro and all was well. THEN, I decided to go on a "diet". I've complained about it b4 but I'm feeling so down today I just had to sit here and complain again. I need to lose about 25 lbs so I bought the 6 week body makeover. It's really a strict plan (you avoid ALL salt, sugar, caffeine, dairy and drastically limit your carbs). Obviously you can see my problem - I was eating A LOT of fruits, veggies and proteins on an empty stomach! I stuck with it (sick as a dog) for 2 weeks and lost 12 lbs! Yeah - but NO. I just can't do it anymore. I have been so sick with my IBS-D I feel like I'm back to square one. I'm so frustrated that all the hard work I put into getting my IBS under control just went out the window with that diet. I think I've been feeling so sorry for myself that that in itself is affecting my IBS. I'm back to feeling paranoid about being out of the house (I made my husband bring me home early from dinner with friends bc I felt that tiny little rumble and thought I was going to be sick). I plan to go to the grocery store and stock up but we're on a very limited budget. Any advice what to buy that won't break the bank? Also - any words of encouragement so I can get over this hump, get well again and then try to lose the weight? Thanks everyone.

Were you taking any supplements while on this diet? High doses of vitamin C will usually cause trouble with your tummy.

No - I wasn't taking any supplements at all. I'm STILL terrified to take vitamins. They really bother me. I was taking Pre Natal vitamins but they were upsetting my stomach too much. I also tried Flintstones (funny but true). None of these during the diet though.

Maybe the best thing to do now is do the BTC diet for a few days, then start adding things bakc into your diet. You should look for SF foods that are low glycemic, and that might help you to lose weight. For example eat quinoa instead of bread. In addition, exercise about 5 days out of 7 and drink a lot of water.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
