VSL Doseages

I finally got the VSL today. I had a question about the doseage. It says on the box to take between 2-8 capsules per day, and that 2 capsules is one serving. I wanted to know how many pills I should take a day, when I should take them, and how long before I see results? Should I begin gradually or jump right in? This VSL is pretty expensive. Thanks.

Did a doctor perscribe it to you? If yes, follow the doc's direction. if you got that on your own, I'd probably start with a low dose then work your way up. As with most probiotics, you probably won't see a major change until after 2 or 3 months use.

2 or 3 months?
This VSL is VERY expensive.
For 60 capsules it cost 45 BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's insane.

I would rather have tried Align but it says it has a milk ingredient.

I would LOVE to take Align over VSL due to the cost.
My GI has recommended it, but my nutrionist objects.
I am in a bind.
Why?

Here are the Other ingredients: microcystalline cellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose capsule USP grade, magnesium stearate, sugar, sodium caseinate, sodium citrate dihydrate, propyl gallate, FD&C blue #2.

Align contains sodium caseinate, which is why it says it contains milk ingredients.
I am very sensitive to milk products, therefore I wanted to know if for IBSers this safe or not.
I know must of us steer clear of ANY milk ingredient, do we make an exemption here, and if so, why would this be any safer than say bread crumbs with whey as the 3rd to last inredient, is it because this is only an other ingredient, a filler?

For cost comparison, is it much different? For me, I'm taking BIO-K+ and it's costing me $86 (canadian) per month. It's expensive yes, but it is helping, so I say it's worth it. If the VSL isn't helping you then maybe look for a cheaper one.

I would look for a probiotic without any milk component. If you want you could try this but it may be harder to tell if it's helping or if the milk ingredient is causing problems.

For me, with foods that contain any milk ingredient in the list, I try to find an alternative that doesn't (ex: PC oatmeal vs Quaker oatmeal, I went to buy PC oatmeal packs but they have milk, so I bought Quaker which didn't). If I can't find a replacement, then I'll try the food and see how I do with it. This may not be so easy to 'try out' if you aren't stable.

Goodluck,

PS: please don't post the same message multiple times. I know in this case you really want an answer but please be patient and wait for someone to answer your post (re: posts on align).
