I'm really hard on myself because I still depend on vicodin sometimes for the pain. I am, however, learning how to take care of the IBS, so the episodes are less frequent. Am I alone??

You're not alone. I take vicodin primarily for muscle/joint pain but it does help my tummy as well and I have taken it specifically for that. I have to be careful though because vicodin is constipating. If you are IBS D this would be a bonus. I know how you feel though. I had to adjust my thinking on this because people and often docs are so against narcotic pain relievers. Thankfully I have had a couple of docs who have told me they would rather see me functioning on vicodin than curled up in ball in bed. It is not a problem as long as you are not exceeding the dosage recommended by your doctor.

Susie...Thank you!! I'm trying to learn other ways to manage my IBS before it gets to that point but, I am also prediabetic and I have high blood pressure. Not to mention I'm overwieght and trying to lose it. So trying to find a suitable diet is difficult. I just learned that I have all these conditions so there is alot of Trial and Error, right now. More error really But, I know I will get to where I need to be eventually. Thanks
