I normally get this a few times a week when I'm craving a hot drink while I'm out. My stomach is acting up today...rumbling, a little looseness of bowels but I do have a headache also and am wondering if it just may be a bug and not the Chai that I had yesterday.
Anyone have problems with it? Sandy

I'd think there would be caffiene in the chai that could be a trigger, so I've avoided it thus far. A few brands of tea make something like "chai spice" tea, which has all the good spicy chai flavors but none of the black tea that has caffiene. I make "chai" with those kinds of teas and soy or rice milk fairly regularly. Mmmm.

Oh my, yes, it messes me up bad. I never have D except when I drink that. Well, that's not true, I'm terribly allergic/sensitive to soy, which I think is an under-appreciated allergen. I've also heard that Starbuck's coffee is much stronger and much more irritating than other coffees. I don't drink coffee anymore, but when I did, Starbucks always made me "uncomfortable".

I stayed clear of it because it is a black tea, not herbal... I went to the website
Quote:
TazoŽ Chai Tea Latte Black tea blend with exotic spices, steamed milk and honey Taste the flavors of India in this steamed TazoŽ blend of rare black teas, milk, exotic spices and comforting vanilla.
The "vanilla" is the syrup which might have HFCS in it too.

I get the Tazo Chai Latte Tea Decaffenated made with soy milk and I do just fine with it. Even before I was pregnant. Maybe it is the spices in it. That can be irritating.

If this is the only caffeine you're getting, it'll probably rumble you up a bit. I'll drink it, but only on occasion and when I'm feeling stable (or a bit too C and I wanna get things moving).

I recently quit working as a barista at Starbucks... and after giving up coffee (while working there... talk about TOUGH, although when you smell it all the time... and grind it all the time... and have your hands in it all the time...) I switched to soy chai latte's.
I don't drink much - a short, soy, no water, 3 pump chai latte and tend to do ok on that small amount. If I have a larger drink, or an excess of them over time (or if my diet is a little high in fat in other areas) I notice it starts to affect my stomach - gurgly, bloaty, gassy.
It wouldn't take until the next day for it to affect me though, it's pretty immediate.
If I drink an iced soy chai instead, I'm more likely to have trouble. More soy, more chai... because I get, you know... a venti.
Everything to excess?!

HI. I just started Heather's diet and I'm looking for a substitute for my morning coffee. I keep posing about Rocomojo which I read I think in Heather's book but I'm not sure if you can drink the Rocomojo coffee or just the Rocomojo soy drink (I went to their website but wasn't sure which one to order). What is a Soy Chai Latte? Is that totally safe, does it taste like coffee, and do they sell it to brew at home? Thanks! Linda

I have the soy Chai as a treat every now and then. I don't tend to have any problems after I drink it but I usually make sure I have some appropriate food in my tummy first.
It certainly is a good replacement for coffee.....I LOVE Starbucks

I'm really in coffee withdrawal...I was only having one cup in the morning but it would get me out of my "cranky" morning person mood! I posted a few times about Rocomojo but nobody has responded. Does the soy Chai taste like coffee or tea? I hate tea!! Thanks

Pumpkin pie filling!
If it cools down a bit it's got a nice peppery 'bite' to it.
Yum.

does the soy chai or chai tea come from a ready made container or do they make it there? Is it chai with soy milk on top or it made mostly with all soy. Also I know they have hot chocolate. I know they can make it with soy..does that mean it's mostly all soy or mostly milk?
Just curious.

Sandy -
All the drinks at Starbucks are made up on the spot - they have the separate ingredients and do the mixing after you order your drink.
The chai Starbucks uses is a concentrated liquid that comes in an aseptic cube - a lot like a carton of soy. It's put in a dispenser that has a pump. When you order your drink the concentrate is put in the bottom of the cup - 2 pumps in a short (8oz cup), 3 in a tall (12oz cup), 4 in a grande (16oz cup), 5 in a venti (20oz cup).
What goes into a chai latte?
The pumps mentioned above, then, it's traditionally filled with hot water to about the top of the siren on the cup (over half, but not 3/4 full) and then they put either steamed milk or steamed soy into the chai/hot water. Foam on top.
A standard, off the menu, chai will have more water in it than anything else. Then soy or milk would be the second most, with the tiny volume of chai being the least amount of anything in the cup.
When I order mine, I don't have them put water in it as it dilutes the taste too much for me and always have one more pump of chai in it than whatever is standard for the cup size. So I get chai concentrate +1 and steamed soy.
Does that make sense?
If you get a hot chocolate it's going to be the same number of pumps mentioned above and then the rest of the cup is filled with either steamed milk or steamed soy. (And whip cream with chocolate drizzle if you don't ask them to hold that back).
The chocolate they use IS vegan, by the way.
Most of the drinks (unless it's an Americano or brewed coffee) are made up, predominantly with whatever type of 'milk' you choose - whole/ff/organic or soy.

If you can handle chocolate than the hot chocolate would be safe? (with soy)
For the most part, the chai's do not bother me. I think the one time I had a reaction wasn't the chai at all but something else I had. I know you can buy soy chai at health food stores but it never tastes as good as Starbucks! I've been blowing the almost 4.00 for one a few times a week now. I always get a grande! hmmmmmm!

... for sure.
If I'm in the mood for chocolate (altho it's not a fave, and I'm not convinced it doesn't bother my stomach just yet) I will have a peppermint hot chocolate... because it covers up the taste of the soy quite nicely.
Like the chai...
I can't say I'm a big fan of steamed soy (or milk, for that matter) and would like my drinks to NOT taste like the carrier. Hard to do with they're mostly milk/soy!
You CAN buy the UNCONCENTRATED chai from Starbucks and here, anyway (Small-towns-ville, WA) they also sell it in Safeway. It's TAZO Chai. Brownish-orange box. In the tea section.
I've tried the Oregon Chai, and am NOT a fan.
Since I only drink a short chai... I'm still well under $3.50 for a drink. It's tough because I used to drink a triple espresso with a dollop of good foam (daily)... talk about CHEAP.
Glad to hear you like it (it took me awhile to get up the courage to even try it... but I'm hooked) AND that it doesn't bother you! That's the best part.
