antibiotics and probiotics

I was recently put on antibiotics, which gave me a lot of stomach pain. I had to stop after one pill due to the pain.
If/when I need to take antibiotics again, should I increase my consumption of probiotics?? Won't the antibiotics "cancel out" the probiotics and vice versa??
Are Sulfa drugs less harsh on the gut?
THANKS for anyone's input.

Sulfa drugs can upset the stomach but might not be as harsh as what you were on. If it was Cypro or Flagyl, those are really harsh antibiotics.
I never heard of probiotics cancelling out antibiotics, but I'm no doctor. Take them afterwards, for sure.

You should take probiotics with antibiotics. Probiotics replenish the bacteria in your stomach and intestines and shouldn't stop the antibiotics from working. Next time you have to take antibiotics just check with your doctor to make sure. Kat

I just want one that has proven to be helpful to someone else. There are way too many to choose from. I'm IBS-C. Do some help C more than others? Or are they all designed to help both D and C?
Thanks

Hi,
Probiotics put helpful bacteria into the stomach, and ANTIbiotics kill bacteria...that is why I am wondering if one "cancels out" the other...if the Probiotics make the Antibiotics ineffective.
If Heather is out there..could you please respond to my original post?: "Should I take extra doses of probiotics while on antibiotics to ease the stomach pain that antibiotics cause me? Will Probiotics make the anibiotics less effective or ineffective??
THANKS.
