This is just a warning, but my acupuncturist informed me that Calcium Carbonate actually slows the stomach's emptying time! This type of calcium is used in antacids to help people with heartburn and such. I've also found out that Nexium can slow the stomach's emptying time, too. I found it quite interesting!

I don't want to sound like a moron.. but why would this be a problem? I can see why for people with C.. but everyone? I would think people with D it would be good no? Slow things down a bit..

When I decided to take a calcium supplement, I did some research and what I found was that calcium carbonate seems to be best for D, while calcium citrate seems to be best for C. (I don't know what an A would do - alternate the two perhaps?)
Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor so it acts to reduce stomach acid. Calcium carbonate absorbs or neutralizes stomach acid. In both cases, I imagine stomach emptying slows because with less stomach acid available it takes longer for food to digest. If you have too much stomach acid, then it seems to me that these products would simply be returning your digestion time to normal in which case slowing down would be a good thing. It also seems to me that any PPI and any antacid would have the same effect, not just Nexium and calcium carbonate.

That's a really good point! I should of just gave that warning for C people instead. Calcium carbonate would be great for people with D!

Do you know how Calcium Citrate is better for C people? It's interesting how different forms can effect the digestive system like that.
