Kefir & Goats Milk

I know that normal dairy products are triggers for IBS but what about kefir and raw goats milk? Has anyone had success with either of these? I'm thinking about making some homeade Kefir.

I read somewhere that goat's milk is A LOT easier to digest then cow's milk. Because of this, I eat feta cheese (sparingly), which also happens to be low-fat. What's kefir anyway?

Kefir is where you set milk out over night and add a kefir mixture(you buy them in packets) and it turns into yogurt. It's a natural form of probiotics instead of taking them in pill form. I think I got that right, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

They are both cultured milk products, but they are different. Kefir is not milk that changes into yogurt over night. Yogurt has beneficial bacteria that can keep your digestive system clean. But the beneficial bacteria in kefir can actually colonize the intestinal tract. Kefir also doesn't need to have the thick consistency yogurt does, you can drink it too.
I actually bought kefir grains from someone and tried doing it, but it didn't turn out good for me. I think I may have waited too long before I put them in the milk so I think they died.

Thanks Gracie, is there a way to know if the beneficial bacteria in kefir is alive or dead after examining it the next day?

You can buy Kefir at Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe's. It comes plain or in fruit flavors. When I was not IBS-C I would mix it with cereal and a little honey! I miss those days!

Those products use pasturized milk. The people in the know say that it's best to use raw goats milk from a very good, reliable, clean source. You get more probiotic benefits that way. I never did get to try the kefir though. I just take my probiotic pills.

Goat's milk is really easy for me to digest, but unfortunately, I can't stand the taste!
If you want to try it, I'd recommend a lowfat version, since the whole kind is really rich.
