i've had IBs now for 10 years and i'm now learning to control it with acupuncture and a limited diet. i have read the first year with IBS but i have found i cannot eat white bread, pasta or potatoes as they bring on attacks. can you suggest what i can replace these foods with?

i look forward to your response

Celiac is a condition where your body cannot tolerate any wheat or gluten, which would obviously explain your problems digesting otherwise gentle foods like starchy grains and potatoes. I would recommend asking your doctor about it, and getting the test done as soon as possible. Sometimes doctors rush to an IBS diagnosis, but all other possibilities should really be ruled out first. Good luck!

http://www.celiac.org/cd-main.php

"Celiac Disease (CD) is unique in that a specific food component, gluten, has been identified as the trigger.  Gluten is the common name for the offending proteins in specific cereal grains that are harmful to persons with CD.  These proteins are found in all forms of wheat (including durum, semolina, spelt, kamut, einkorn, and faro), and related grains, rye, barley, and triticale and must be eliminated."
