I love this website. It has been so helpful. I immediately noticed a change in my ibs symptoms when I started following some of the diet suggestions on this site. The relief from cramping was the biggest surprise. Now though, I am having a problem with constipation. I usually have the diarrhea problem, so I really dont know how to deal with this one. I dont want to eat a dairy food or drink coffee just to go to the bathroom, I am afraid the pain will come back. I cant take fiber pills because I have had a gastric bypass and have a small stomach pouch. I would appreciate any suggestions. Again, I am really glad to have found you guys. Thanks, Anne Marie

Are you eating enough insoluble fiber?? If you don't get enough insoluble fiber with the soluble fiber it will make you constipated! Try a fruit smoothy, or some hummus and pita bread. Are you drinking enough water?

Hi - Michele's right. You need to (carefully!) eat enough insoluble fiber along with the soluble. The fruit smoothies and hummus are great, so are cooking/blending veggies into soups and pasta sauces. And try brown rice and oatmeal for your soluble fiber sources.
Can you take a soluble fiber powder supplement instead of the pills? There are options that are non-gelling, like Acacia or Benefiber.
Also, keep your water intake up and your exercise schedule on track. That will help normalize bowel function.
Welcome!
