Hey guys...so I've noticed that different people can eat different things (like some can drink alcohol and others can do some spicy stuff). What about popcorn? And sprite?

I know they're both supposed to be no-no's, buuuuutttt I do sneak some now & then. I found some popcorn that said it was hulless & ok for people with diverticulitis, so I tried a teeny weeny bit, & it was pretty good. I don't know how to really describe it except it was tiny kernels & not as "hard/rough" as regular popcorn. Does that make sense? Also, I have a tiny glass of ginger ale sometimes if I'm feeling ok, & it doesn't bother me. Both of these I never do on a completely empty stomach of course!
I think that was more of a confession than help...lol Mags

I am not able to have popcorn anymore and I miss it .I really avoid pop- but at times Sprite is ok in a small amount. Where are you from in Canada? I know you are in Tokyo now.

Everyone is different with different tolerance levels for different things. I'm very interested in the hull-less popcorn, though. It's the hard part that makes it insoluble (and therefore deadly to me). The fluffy part maybe is OK - maybe Heather can shed some light on this. As for Ginger Ale - I admit to indulging in caffeine free pops once in a while. I can tolerate it.

What about popcorn cakes? Like rice cakes only popcorn (without the hulls).

When I was in high school, I knew a bunch of people with braces (teeth). They could get popcorn that didn't get stuck in their teeth, which I think means it was hullless. And it was kernels you popped by yourself. I'm wondering how that applies...
man...I miss popcorn! It always soothed a stomachache! (go figure!)
(P.S. - I can't find popcorn or rice cakes over here!)

It is the hulls (which are the outer part of the kernel) of popcorn that have the most insoluble fiber, so if that's removed it would be a much more tolerable snack. I've never heard of this - what stores carry it? Sounds wonderful, actually.
Like other insoluble fiber foods, tolerance can vary depending on how much you eat, if you have soluble fiber first, how stable you are at that time, etc. Same thing for the soda pop - if you choose a brand without the caffeine, artificial sweeteners, and high fructose corn syrup, the only trigger left would likely be the carbonation. Again, having a small glass on a stomach full of soluble fiber will be much more tolerable than drinking a whole can on an empty stomach. And I've long suspected that real gingerale may be more tolerable than other types of soda because of the ginger itself. I do love good gingerale, and I'll splurge sometimes at a restaurant and drink a little after the meal (I usually take some Equalactin or Fibercon with it to be extra safe).
