I purchased this snack food called mini peaks, and I noticed that it has cream of tartar. Does anyone know what cream of tartar is? Is that like a milk product? Can we tolerate it if I can't eat anything dairy?

It is not a dairy product. According to my Penzey's spice catalog, cream of tartar is "natural tartaric acid" According to http://tinyurl.com/8xhey (Fact Monster), cream of tartar is one of the salt forms of this acid that is found in a variety of plants. It's used to stabilize things like meringue toppings and angel kiss cookies, both of which are made from whipped egg whites. In short, it's safe.

Thanks so much. That's what I thought when I looked it up, but I wanted to make sure from you folks. Yay, now I get to try the dessert.
