I am newly diagnosed and have no idea what i can and cannot eat. I have ordered the book and have downloaded the lists but I want to know if I can still have strawberries and what category they would be listed in.

Welcome to the Boards. It's been a great help to me and I hope it will be to you, too. Here's some stuff to get you going while you're waiting for your books:

Go to the main Message Board page. The first Board you'll see in the right-hand column of the big box is "Eating for IBS Diet Board". Under the board name you'll see:
Quote:

Welcome to the board! This forum offers a happy home for people following the Eating for Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet.

BEFORE POSTING, please familiarize yourself with:

This is followed by a list of 4 links. Read through those 4 links and you should have a good idea of what you can and can't eat.

Then go into the Eating for IBS Diet Board itself and you'll see a bunch of posts at the top of the Board that have little push-pin icons. These are sticky posts, which means they're always at the top. Read through those, as well, for more information on how the Diet and the Boards work.

Last, but not least, for an excellent brief overview of what to eat and how to eat it, check out this old post.

All this reading should help clear up most of your questions. As for strawberries being a no-no: If you elect to do the Break The Cycle Diet for a few days, you'll be eating only Soluble Fiber (SF) on that. On the EFI Diet itself, except for the trigger foods and irritants no foods are forbidden - it's more a matter of how you eat than what you eat. Strawberries are Insoluble Fiber (IF) which means you should eat them after you've laid down a Soluble Fiber (SF) base and you may find them easier to handle if you chop, puree, and/or cook them.

HTH.

I am pretty sure strawberries are considered insoluble fiber, which means eat something soluble first. I eat about 3 once a week and do fine. Good luck.

There are some really great lists on here on what to eat and not to as well as insoluble and insoluble fiber.
