I don't know if there is anyone that can help me but I am getting ready to have back surgery in a few months. I follow the IBS diet as closely as I am able and can but still deal with chronic constipation. I am concerned about my diet while I am in the hospital and how I can deal with the constipation. Thank you. This is the first time I have posted on this messageboard. Lola

Are you eating enough IF and taking a SFS?

yes, I take a SFS all day as directed in the book, before meals and if I haven't eaten for awhile. I take Milk of Mag. every night to relieve my symptoms in the morning.

Do you eat enough insoluble fibre? (IF)

I probably eat the most IF in the evening because I am afraid of getting gas and bloating while I am at work. When I do eat IF in the evening I will get gas and some bloating.

I would tell your doctor you are concerned about your diet while staying in the hospital. Last time I had to stay at the hospital I spoke with the dietian there. They were very helpful. Good luck with your surgery.

You're probably not getting enough IF in your diet which could be causing the C, and it should be eaten throughout the day along with your SF (soluble fibre). Vegetables should be well cooked, mashed, or purred so you can digest it better. Also a lot of fruits should be peeled before eating. Some people on here use Beano when they eat IF because it helps reduce the bloating and gas. Fennel tea helps too.

Oh yes, sorry I got off topic, you were more concerned about the hospital stay.

Thank you. I will try doing that more during the day. I guess I have had some really bad bouts with my IBS that I am leary of doing anything other than what I already know really works and d/n upset my stomach. Esp. while I am work.
