How long is it safe to take stool softners?

I've been on them for 2 weeks now. I take 2 in the morning. It just helps it pass without having to strain. So, I was wondering, how long is it safe though?

Hi Kiwii, I think you can take them for quite a while,indefin-
itely if necessary. They act just like a mild osmotic laxative
like Miralax, at least the one's I've used. -Bob

I have prescription for Miralax, but have not yet gotten it filled. One day, when the money lines up....

I was prescribed Colace for most of my pregnancy, so if it's safe indefinitely long-term for a pregnant woman, I'm guessing that it's the same for non-pregos.
