Is there an general time frame on how long the Acaia takes to work? Or is it just based on individual chance? Also in the past I was taking metamucial and then benefiber and just recently switched over to acaia, so I was wondering how much and how often to take the acaia? Thank you everyone for all of your wonderful help. Tony

For me it wasn't how long I took the Acacia, but getting up to a high enough dose. That dose varies from person to person. In general, it seems to be higher for those with C than those wih D, but I'm a D and do best at 8 teaspoons, which is 20 grams of SF from Acacia, a lot for a D. I got there really, really slowly, which is important when taking any SFS in order to avoid unpleasant side effects. Also, the Acacia by itself is not enough - I also need to stick to Heather's Diet to really feel better.

Because part of the idea behind taking an SFS is to keep your colon full of SF, it's best to spread your Acacia use throughout the day. I'd say at least 2 and preferably 3 or 4 doses, depending on your schedule. Here's an old post I did on how I take mine throughout the day.

If you're C, you might take a look at the old newsletters for June 7 and 22, 2005, for some information on taking Acacia.

As far as switching from your old SFS to Acacia, the important thing is to keep the amount of SF the same. There's a sticky post at the top of the Diet Board that discusses how to make the transition.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
