Over the last year I've spent thousands of dollars on tests and have seen so many doctors. Upper and lower GI, endoscopoy, colonoscopy, blood tests, etc. all turned out negative. So the last doctor said it might be IBS. He didn't mention anything about changing my diet, but put me on five different kinds of medication. I can't even remember them all. Nothing helped. I just spent a week's vacation with a girlfriend who has IBS and gluten problems. She told me about the IBS diet, and I've just started it (about 10 days ago). I'm still not feeling that great. How long does it take to start being beneficial. Also, just today I started back on Effexor. I felt better when I was on it.

Well, the good part is that you finally know what you have to deal with. If you haven't already picked up Heather's books, I recommend it. How long it takes to feel better is different for everyone and if you allow any triggers in your diet at all you won't feel better very quickly, if at all. Many people find that the best thing to do is to stick strictly to safe foods until the bowels calm down and heal. Hang in there. It'll get better.

And check into other methods of treating IBS. Hypno, yoga...things like that.

Hot teas and Heather's Acacia fiber work very well.
