Estrogen effects of Fennel?

Does anyone know anything about the estrogen effects of fennel? I've just done a little bit of research on fennel (I'm considering this IBS diet) and found that it seems to have some estrogen effects. To what extent? I am in early menopause stage (and I'm only 42). I don't want to go on hormone therapy because my sister is just now 3 years out from breast cancer caused by 20 years on hormone therapy. Some research I've done on hormonal issues indicates that you don't want too much estrogen added back to your system, it's actually progesterone that you want. Anyway, are the estrogen effects of fennel only minimal or are they more substantial? My sister has to stay away from any forms of estrogen (soy, fennel, etc.).
Also, can anyone provide me with some advice on making herb teas more palatable. I haven't found any that I like. I don't like them enough to even just force it down. How can I make them more pleasant?

Other sites that I read info on only said that people who already have estrogen-dependant cancer, or pregnant and lactating women should stay away from large doses of fennel. For a healthy woman, I don't think a few daily cups of tea will hurt.

The thing is my sister has estrogen-dependent breast cancer. I'm at a higher risk then. But, I don't think I would be using fennel in large amounts so I'm thinking it will be okay.

Try adding honey, mint, lemon, or ginger. Also, I find some of them are better as iced tea (or at least cooled tea).

Hi there
I know exactly what you mean about herbal teas - peppermint gives me heartburn, I can't stand the taste of fennel, and all the fruity mixes I've tried just taste nasty - even with honey added.
However... I found one today that was quite nice, chamomile, cinammon and honey. I'd never look forward to drinking it, don't get me wrong, but it's bearable if it'll help my stomach. Unfortunately I added more honey, which made it a little bit sweet, but maybe without that, or less of it, it'd be ok.
Good luck finding one you like!

Also, I find they have to steep longer than a typical black or green tea to taste like anything better than "dead weeds in a ditch" (Grandma's term).
