Hi guys, I haven't posted in awhile. I have lost over 65 pounds since finally being diagnosed last summer with IBS. I am finally getting stable using Heather's wisdom although I still get queasy in the evenings. Recently have begun to get more physically active, softball, the gym etc. I noticed that after a full day of exercise, I get really sick. I am wondering if the release of lactic acid from the muscles has anything to do with this?

Congrats on the weight-loss! It's also great that you're more physically active. The release of lactic acid in the muscles causes localized pain, but I don't think it would cause IBS symptoms. I do have a few ideas as to why you aren't feeling well:

1. Dehydration - this is an easy one to fix but also easy to forget. Drink lots of water, and I hear Gatorade is safe too. Tea would be great in the evenings to help you not feel sick.

2. Not eating enough during the day - since you are so active, are you eating enough, and often enough, during the day? Your stomach can start getting queasy on empty so make sure to always keep yourself from feeling hungry. This could also lead to:

3. Eating a ton of food when you get home - after all that activity it's easy to come home and gorge on food. Even if it's safe food, if you eat a lot at once it will affect you. Also if you come home on an empty stomach, eating anything bad or too much will affect you. Try having a small balanced meal after exercising.

4. Fatigue - if you feel tired after exercising it could help to have a nap. Being too tired can aggravate IBS symptoms as well.

Some foods I would suggest to bring with you when exercising, or to eat before/after are bananas, carrots, arrowroot crackers, Gatorade, Luna bars. Make sure to get enough protein after as well.

Hope you feel better, and let us know how it goes.

Thanks so much Kat. I think the nap would probably be good as I do get exhausted toward the end of the day. I eat bread or bagles during the games to keep something in the stomache. It's strange but when I get sick the muscle pain intensifies. Next morning back to normal soreness in the muscles. I'll try the nap and the light meal. Sounds good to me.

Hi Kat, Those were very good suggestions. Good analysis!
Say, did you know that K2 was a famous Soviet nuclear sub that
sank in the Baltic back it the 60's. It was the 2nd nuke sub
they built and the first one to sink. I'm sure that's not why
you chose K2 though. -Bob

Interesting historical fact, I definetly didn't know about it! It's also a mountain in Pakistan, second highest supposedly (next to Everest), and the initial of my first name K with my favorite number 2.
Thanks for the info hehe,
Kat
