HEllo everyone my name is Maureen Conlin. I'm new here. I'm from Canada Ottawa Ontario. I am single no children no men just me and my two cats. I do lots of volunteer work. I love music like to read. Knit,do some crafts. I play guitar and sing. I was just wondering I have been enjoying this website for couple of weeks now. I used to come in here when I was first told that I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I had it now for over five years. I been trying to change my eating habits. Like from chips to rice crackers rice cakes. And rice crisps. Going from coke to diet coke now I'm drinking Sprite and water. I was just told that if I eat too much rice snacks that isnt good either. I just read some other snacks so I guess I am going to eat other stuff too. I guess its samething in life too much of one isnt as good. I was in hospital twice in February first was a partial bowel obstruction which almost led me to surgery but they put a tube down my nose and went into a machine. Then couple of weeks later I had muscle spasm. Been three weeks now and I hadn't been needed to go back to emergeny yet. Fingers crossed. Please if there are any suggestions I am willing to read and carry through. Cause most of the time before no matter what I ate it would right through me. Like soup etc. Lately they told me stress related was under stress for sometime with a broken ankle in September and then packing and moving to new apartment in December and January. So now that I'm in the new enviroment things have been better. Sorry to have been long winded. Once I get to know more people here promise I won't be as long winded. I'm willing to try new stuff. Thanks Maureen

I replaced my cereals, breads, and baked goods with rice alernatives to be GF safe. I went from chronic D to chronic C! My gi told me that too many rice products will do that and that a GF diet tends to be constipating. So, I guess it could be the rice for you too!
How much of it were you eating a day? Are you eating GF or did you just think rice snacks would be safer?
Welcome to the sight, btw.

Thanks Augie for your reply I'm not too sure what is GF I'm kind of new trying different foods for my IBS. I'm willing to try so I'm learning all new language about IBS so please be patient with me. I could eat about a bag 200 g of rice chips, a package of rice crackers the following day and also rice cakes. So I'm willing to learn from this website also. Thanks

You certainly are a "gutsylady!" I know that we are all "sharing learning" through our diverse experiences. You've been through a lot! Welcome.
Are you consuming any fruits & vegetables? If you're eating gf, you might want to try quinoa--it's a nutrient powerhouse & very gentle on the g.i. system. It contains a complete amino acid profile as well. Amaranth is another versatile gf grain.
Best wishes in your IBS journey. Heather has many valuable guidelines.
Kate, IBS-D.
