I have IBS and just found this site.
So far it looks like what I've been looking for.
I am 10 pounds over weigh but my cholesterol 290.
I have always ate Salads, grilled fish, chicken, you know the way we are told to eat.
Well sure can't eat that way now, everything sets the IBS off.
It looks like most of the foods I see here are foods I should be able to eat and would also be good to eat with my high Cholesterol.
Is there anyone else here with high cholesterol and find these foods OK?
Sure hope so, some sound good and are giving me hope that I can start to live normal again.
Thanks
Tillie

Hi and welcome,

Although my cholesterol was never that high (I think it was about 212 or so before I started this diet - it was enough they wanted me to watch what I ate to try to get it lower, but not high enough for meds), it did drop to 180 something just from following this diet. Plus, soluble fiber can help reduce cholesterol...even my GI said that would be a nice side benefit from taking a soluble fiber supplement. Oh, and I did start exercising too, so that helped also I'm sure.

Hi Tillie, and Welcome!

I too have high cholesterol (and IBS). Check this out: web page

Ten pounds overweight isn't a lot, not by a long shot. I'm more than that. I'm on Weight Watchers and doin' real well with it. My goal is to lose it all by September, when my doc has me scheduled for lab tests towards the possibility of putting me on cholesterol meds. I'm determined not to have to take it.

How am I gonna do it? Well, like I said, I'm on Weight Watchers and losing weight, slowly but surely. I'm exercising daily and cutting out the sweets and fats. I think I can do it.

Grilled fish and chicken are great. Just lay off the salads until you get stable; go for home-made vegetable soup instead (and LOTS of it). Try a fruit smoothie using low-fat soy milk and soy "ice cream" -- YUMMMMM!

Above all, get Heather's book and follow it to the letter. You'll get better, I promise.

Thanks,
I think mine is from my family.
I now know I have to lay off the Salads, I am so tired of the cramps and always afraid to go anywhere for fear of having a personal problem.
My doctor won't let me wait to try to lower the cholesterol with foods, he wants it down now.
I will be looking at the book.
Again thanks for both your help. I did go to the store today and get some of the foods listed here.
Husband even loved them, he's starting to stop smoking and now wants low fat foods.
I have a little Cairn, and I need to get healthy for her and my family.
Tillie
