I read in the book that menstrual cycles can trigger Ibs.
What else can we do on a vitamin level to help with those nasty little hormones when they get a little wacked?

I find taking my birth control pills contuniosly so I don't have a period is the only thing that helps. Do a search on ibs and periods and you will find a lot of info.

Taking calcium faithfully is supposed to help with PMS/menstrual symptoms (see here for more info). Now, here's the trick: if you're IBS-C (prone to constipation), take your calcium, but because it can be constipating, take half as much magnesium with it (so if you're taking 1000 mg calcium, pref. calcium citrate, also take 500 mg magnesium). But if you're IBS-D (prone to diarrhea), skip the magnesium, and take calcium carbonate (like Tums). Finally, whichever type of IBS you have, split the 1000 mg of calcium into 2 500 mg doses, because that's all your body can absorb at one time. There, is that now clear as mud?

Somewhere I read that Tums can aggravate D. I have nothing to back that up but I know I read that somewhere. Do you know if that is the case??

I'm prone to C and I concur with Tess's suggestions here, I take magnesium and calcium together, and that works well for me. When I was just talking calcium (something that was labelled "for colon health") it constipated me badly.
