Hi everyone- it's been a long time. I have tried to stick to the diet but not get consumed in my IBS so i have stayed away! (I hope that makes sense). I have really received so much help from all of you! Thanks!
I was reading some information about Candida today and I had so many of the symptoms, constipation, nasal drip, irritability etc. I was on birth control for a long time and as that is one of the causes was wondering if that might be what I suffer from in addition to IBS or by itself. If anyone knows anything I would appreciate the help. Does anyone know of a test to see if you have it? I would really appreciate the help. My research on the web gave info about a diet. The funny thing is that it says to avoid all yeast, sugar etc. But those are the kind of foods rec. on the IBS diet! That is frusturating. Thanks so much!

Hi rlan, I had candida several years ago, and I went to a homapathic clinic. The lady that I saw gave me a sheet of questions to answer about my symtoms. Then she did Iridology which is looking into the eyes. YOur eyes are like a road map to the body. She was able to see how bad my body was with the candida. There are several products that you can buy from the homipathic clinic that will get rid of the candida in your system. The diet for it is very different from the IBS diet. If you want to go to your family doctor he can prescribe an anti fungal medication, but it doesn't always work. If you choose either way to go, expect to feel really lousy for the first week or so cause your body is starting to get rid of the fungas and it gets into the blood so it can flush it out. Sugar is a food for the candida so it helps it to grow.Flour makes a barrier wall in your bowel and makes it hard for you to get the proper nutrients from your food. You will also have to cut out any foods that are furmented. Formented foods carry mold and candida is a form of mold that we have in our body all the time. When there is an overgrowth of the mold it turns into a fungas which invades the rest of the body. Other food that you will have to stop eating are peanuts, fruits with a rind on them pop, caffine and anything pickled and dairy products. It is a low carb, high protien diet. The diet may sound bleek, but the medicines and it work really well. I also drank lots of crysanthimum tea and ate lots of rice and lentals and meat. YOu could eat chicken and turkey and fish for the meat. Rice cakes and cooked fruit(ones like apples and pears, peaches, necturines) and cooked veggies would be okay as well.I made my own mayo so you could use egg whites and canola oil and some lemon juice to do that. I used stevia for a sweetner and also took acidopholis pills. Hope this helps you. If you want to talk to me more about it here is my email addy howarthg@shaw.ca. Good luck. Gail

Wow, thanks so much for the info and help. When I do further research I'll get back to you if I have questions. One thing, so do you have IBS? If so, which diet do you follow? I mean it sounds like eating the IBS way would bring it back?
Thanks so much!

Hi rian, you are welcome for the info. I was on the candida diet for 6 months and got rid of the problem with the over growth of the fungus. I am IBS and follow that diet now. Good luck. Gail

For what it's worth, I believe in sensible use of "alternative" medicine and have had terrific luck with homeopathic treatment, esp. for seasonal allergies. But I happen to believe that iridology and candida overgrowth are both utter nonsense. For a more scientific, balanced viewpoint, try these links: Dr. Weil on candida overgrowth and Dr. Weil on iridology.
