hi all- seems like whenever i take fiber supplements i do it for 2-3 days and dont see any results (sometimes my C actually gets worse) and then stop - can it take a while before you see results, or should fiber start working immediately? thanks for the feedback.

Hi Sidewalker, I think it takes quite a while, especially if you're starting out at low doses. I think we're talking months here, not weeks or days. -Bob

You have to build up dosage slowly, so it could take a while to get to a dose that works. You must also increase fluid intake and IF or you won't see results. 2 or 3 days simply isn't long enough. SF supplement really turned things around for me!! I am also C.

I do use the Acacia - it has been a godsend to me! I am C and have used Metamucil, Citracel and others before trying the Acacia. Psyllium works for some C's better and SF supplements are definately a personal choice. However, I think the same principle applies - you have to slowly increase the dose along with fluids until you reach a working dose. It takes a good bit of time. It took me about 4 months to get to a dose of Acacia that truly helped. I increased only 1/4 teaspoon at a time for about 3 weekds each time. I could have done it quicker perhaps, but there was always an adjustment period of 3-5 days, so I just took it slow.
Hope this makes sense!

hello, this is my first time posting, I was hoping someone might be able to answer my question, I have had IBS-C diagnosed for about 4 years, I have been taking psyillum capsules (pure) for a few years, lately I dont think they have been working, i also started taking pro-biotics (i think they gave me a huge flare up) I just bought my first lb of acacia fiber, I guess i wnat to know if anyone has seen better results from psyllium capsules or the acacia? and some opinions on the pro-biotic thing? any info or personal opinions would be great!! thanks but feeling very very bloated!

Oh relatively decent these days. I wouldn't say that I'm stable, maybe semistable, which is much better than I was before the stroke. I'm not doing any SFS right now, but I'm eating plenty of fiber. Still having the thin stool BM's for the most part, but at least I'm having them, and they're fairly regular and not urgent. I am taking up to two doses of Miralax per day. Oh well, as long as it works. Thanks for asking-Bob

Welcome to the boards. Use the search feature and you will find out a ton of information on fiber. I tried all kinds before I switched to Acacia. You have to take it slow and increase till you see a difference. I also take a probiotic, and I know it helps me. It apparently does not help everyone. It is a matter of trial and error. Give it time and a fair chance, and if it worssens things, try something else. Just don't stop so soon that it doesn't have a chance to make a difference. C takes more time and patience to resolve. Plenty of water, exercise and IF are also KEY!
