Does anyone know what to do for Leaky Gut Syndrome? Is there a way to "fix it"?

Doesn't sound too fun...a juicing fast or a hypallergenic diet for a long time? What would one eat?

Its funny you posted that beth, I was just looking at your post. LOL

This is a tough thing. There is something called "gut permeability" recognized by the medical community and there is a big push out there from the alternative proponets of something called "leaky gut" not recognized by the medical community.

First where did you see and hear about this?

Next, it is not the cause of IBS so you know.

There is a lot of information, but a lot you have to be careful of about this really.

I have to say the article Gracie posted has highly inaccurate information on IBS.

When I did a search, Heather had suggested that the poster ask you about this since you are "up on research"!

I have gluten antibodies but not celiac disease. The GI suggested I have a leaky gut...but I forgot to ask her what to do for it! And she didn't offer the info either. I don't know why she would suggest this and then not tell me what to do about it!

Lots of protein, fresh vegetables, and some fruit. The diet is more simple than you think, but lots of starchy things like white breads, pastas, white rice, processed foods, and sugar/sweet foods must be eliminated.
Probiotics is also very good for leaky gut, but it's not the only thing that will help, other supplements and the diet will help.

I agree about the IBS part of the article, but I think the rest is pretty good info.

I wouldn't know where I'd get my SF buffer from?

I think the acacia would be fine, and there might be other SF items that can be eaten, but I haven't checked on that.

Beth, ask your doc about it again. I know probiotics is one method. The gut also replaces its cells, but you have a specific problem perhaps causing it.

It sound like your not true celiac, but wheat intolerent.

I have just been diagonsed with IBS. It has been going on for awhile. I started yoga today hoping it will help. My stomach feels different every day. My Dr. is one of the leading researchers in teh US and is working with me. If nayone has any suggestions for a newly diagnosed woman soon to be 44 I'd love to hear them. I can tell you when I exercise a lot and drink lots of water I am able to eat whatever I please and feel like new!! Thanks to whomever chooses to help me out!!

Hello and welcome,

You should post a discussion about this since you'll probably get more feedback.
