Hi,I am new here and I have read a lot of posts. Bear with me. I am beggining to think I have the symtoms of someone with IBS-C. I am now in my 40`s but have had irregular bowel patterns for years. It comes and goes and sometimes it is not real painfull, just a lot of discomfort. Unfortunately I have always had horrible eating habits and I'm under a lot of stress at times. The problem is I am limited on what I can do as far as medical help. I do not have insurance and I have a husband who refuses to pay for the tests that show you DO NOT have another medical condition. I realize there is no test that actually proves you have IBS. My best guess is to first try a soluble fiber supplement. I can`t seem to figure out which foods bother me. I have sinus allergies but I am beginning to think some are actually FOOD allergies now. I have seen an ENT for the headaches but she wants me see an allergist who will run tons of tests I keep reading how some doctors are terrible for diagnosing and treating IBS. I know this sounds like a lot but I am desparate. I need your advice on this and where to turn now. I need to find a knowledgable gastroenterologist on this subject somehow I would imagine. Thanks for reading my post. domestictech

Hi DST,

You're absolutely right. You need to have tests done, including a colonoscopy, to rule out everything possible. I held off for years having it done, even though several doctors had told me they were pretty sure I had IBS. It was foolish of me.
Stress was my un-doing, stress and anxiety. Thankfully, I found Heather, her books, these Boards, and Michael, our hypnotherapist. I'm stable now, and have been for over a year, and I'm very grateful for it. But I could not have done it on my own. And I most DEFINITELY could not have done it if I had "horrible eating habits."
It is too bad you do not have medical insurance. You'll have to sit down and have a little chat with hubby. This is important.
Good luck.
