Is there any laxitives that can be taken when a person has severe c? I've been trying everything and it was working for several months but now all of a sudden my severe c has been worse for weeks.
How about lactulose?

Thanx

I know it's "old fashioned" but Milk of Magnesia always works for me when all else fails and it doesn't give me cramps like some other laxatives. I prefer the cherry flavor to the original, which tastes very 'chalky' to me. I take it before bedtime and 'things' happen by 10am the next day! If I'm having a lot of pain I use a heat pad on my tummy for a while before I go to sleep, which I find soothing. I hope you get some relief soon.

try a Search for Miralax - some people swear by it.

Are you on Heather's diet? Getting enough IF and water and a little fat?

Hello Eliza,

Some people on this board swear by ginger for their nausea. It also helps in digestion. Try drinking some ginger tea, or adding ginger to your food. I hope you feel better soon.

The D may be a reaction to the C - I've seen other people on the Boards post that if they stay C for an extended period it often resolves itself as D.

If you can tolerate it, hot peppermint tea may help with the D and if you're having cramping, try a heating pad to ease the pain. Eating just SF for a couple of days should help the D, but you do need to start adding back in IF to avoid swinging C again and starting the whole cycle over.

I'm not sure what you mean by "made up juice", but fruit juice is usually high in fructose which can be an IBS trigger. Try water or a herbal tea. I know it's summer there, so if it's too hot for a lot of hot drinks, try drinking your water and herbal tea at room temperature - ice cold can be a trigger, also.

One last thought. You'll probably get more attention for a post like this if you start a whole new thread. Most people don't read every post, so they may skip over a thread on "Laxatives" and never see your post about needing help for D.

I hope your GI was helpful and you feel better soon.

Take care.

Milk Of Magnesia didn't relieve my c. It has made me severely sick. I have severe bloating, gas pressure, gas cramps, and my behind is burning.
Now I don't know what to do. It's so painful it feels like I'm slowly dying.

Darn it. Hmmmmm.... what to do?!

Ask your dr about miralax. I've taken it for years now. Its an osmotic prescription laxative. It works by pulling water into your colon, no hard chemicals. Do a board search and you'll get all kinds of info on it!

Hi Beth, No, it's not. It is a dissacharide sugar that we
cannot digest so it is inert just like polyethylene glycol
(Miralax), and fundamentally works the same way as Miralax
does. It possibly may even work better and have less side
effects than Miralax. I don't know, I've never tried nor
do I know anybody who has. -Bob

I tired Miralax and it made me sick as well.
Every laxitive I've tried has made me really ill.
My bowels can't handle them.
