...for today, that is! In terms of stress/anxiety/depression affecting IBS--sometimes, I feel a little sad or lonely or annoyed about the daily monotony that is my life, but I don't feel that I am necessarily stressed or overly depressed...could my subconcious be affecting my IBS (the pain) without me even knowing it? Could I be stressed or very anxious and my physical self feels it even though mentally/emotionally, I do not feel this way? Also, does anyone else have this: lots of times, I feel pain/spasm in my lower abdomen when I am reading/looking up info about IBS or other possible conditions even though I was fine two minutes before that. Any correlation?

Ask as many questions as you need! I personally find that my ibs is worse when I'm feeling blue. Yes, I believe you can internalize stress and axiety without really being aware of it mentally! I think this is also why a lot of the anti-depressant drugs helps IBS poeple so much! I'm IBS C and take Lexapro.

IT totally can - that's where the enteric nervous system kicks in. Not so sure about the part where you said spasms happen when you merely think about IBS but I know for sure that all my symptoms worsen when I am sad/happy/excited/blue/angry - whatever. My GI dctor totally reinforced that for me. I now journal my feelings and note my symptoms on a simple chart I made and I can totally see the connection and I really think that if I could get my stress and anxiety in check then my symptoms would lessen significantly.
I think relaxation exercises are a must for IBS sufferers.
