Linz, Sand, Astrochick, Bamagrl, and all others who I don't know take it.... Was this the first SFS you tried? Or have you tried others? Just wondering.

What made you stick with Acacia over another? Thanks for any feedback!

I tried Equalactin first, but it actually made me very C, even only taking 2 a day!

I then figured I'd take the Acacia since many people here seemed to like it, and it doesn't have other ingredients in it to worry about like some of the other SFSs. I've stuck with it, since it seems to help me be a bit more regular, and in conjunction with the peppermint caps be in less pain in general. I do still have times when my tummy's bugging me, and I need to sit with my heating pad, but they're less frequent than they used to be.

I have used Citracel - when first diagnosed 14 years ago I was D. Given antispasmodics and another drug I can't remember for one year. Then just fiber and antispas as needed. Stayed with Ctiracel at that time.

When C began, went back to Ctracel...no dice
Tried Metamucil...still no dice
Zelnorm next...helped for two weeks then no dice.

THEN ACACIA...and DICE!!! I will take it from now on!!

No taste, no grit and good poops!!

I've tried Metamucil on and off for years, before an IBS diagnosis because my doctors kept nagging me about getting more fiber and then after my IBS diagnosis because my doctor said fiber was a good idea. I could never stomach the grit, gloop, etc., so I'd take one dose, then not touch it again for months.

I tried Benefiber after finding Heather's diet because my endocrinologist uses it for her weight loss patients and I think she's a good doc. It was very takable - no grit, gloop, taste, etc. - but even at a low dose, it made my tummy feel funny, so I gave up on it pretty quickly.

I tried acacia partly because it seemed to be pure SF and partly because Heather sold it and my IBS had gotten so much better on Heather's diet that I was considering building a shrine to her in my front yard. I started low and went slow and I've never had a moment's trouble with it. Now that I've been careless about taking it ("but I'm doing so well, surely I don't really need all this SFS") and am back down to a low dose and building back up, my tummy really, really misses it - and it lets me know that every day.

Beth, I can answer for AC, that's one of the things we talked
about at the get-together. No, she started with citrucel.

I forget if it was that she wasn't that keen on the orange
flavor or that acacia has more SF per unit volume. She'll
have to chime in on this. However, she was having signifcant
success with Citrucel, and I don't think in her mind the
change was a very big deal. -Bob

I started with the Metamucil capsules, which I hated. They made me a bit bloated but mostly I just hated having to make millions of pills everyday and thought of the flavour of the powder just sent me off.

I've used Benefiber in the past for short periods when I've run out of Acacia and I like it well enough. However, Sand, you said that it makes your stomach feel 'a bit funny' - I get that too. I figured that it was just because I hadn't been using it long and my stomach wasn't used to it (and maybe it is), but I still greatly prefer Acacia.

At this time my parents are garciously pitching in and helping me pay for it, as it's a little pricey for me to order it from the US. I figure that if they ever stop doing that (before I win the jackpot that is, lol) then I'll have to switch to Benefiber, as other than Metamucil I think it's the only other one available in Canada.

Nope, I was on a different one that was really harsh AND had sweeteners in it before Acacia...that one made me bloated and gave me nausea, plus it was disgusting to take!

Acacia gives me NO side effects and is so easy to take.
