I have read all the information about dieting. I have a problem. I have Chronic Hepatitis C and IBS. Where can I get help to manage the two at the same time? I am taking weekly, self-injections of pegasys and also pills, Ribavrin along with other medicine. The Hep C say's to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and to exercise, but IBS say's somewhat differently. I am getting depressed and need some help. I have been on treatment for both problems for 3 months now and my stomach is consistently looking as if I am 8 months pregnant. I am always hungry but try to deny myself eating. I have always weighed 125 since forever and 130 pregnant. I now weigh 155 pounds with no clothes to wear and very uncomfortable. Please help me! [color:brown] [/color]

Maybe consulting a dietician would be beneficial for you. I don't think you need to eliminate fruits and veggies altogether, but I think most IBS'ers avoid raw vegetables.

My goodness! Having to deal with IBS is horrible, but Hepatitis as WELL? OMG!
Well, I can help you out a little bit at least with the fresh fruit and veggies, which your body needs and which you should have -- even with IBS, believe it or not. Heather talks about this in her books and here on the website.
For fruit, choose your faves, and then pulverize them in a blender with some soy yogurt or soy "ice cream" and a banana, maybe even some honey. It's the best way to get your fruit -- and lots of it.
For veggies, make yourself some veggy soup. Just buy some chicken stock and add FINELY-chopped veggies of your choice (however, I'd stay clear of cabbage and broccoli), making sure they're cooked REAL WELL before eating.
You can also make a cream soup, using soy milk and pulverizing the veggies until they're liquid. Check the Recipe Board for Mag's fabulous cream of broccoli soup. It's the only way I can tolerate broccoli -- in liquid form!
Don't worry about the weight right now; you can deal with that later. Just concentrate on the diet and getting better. That should be your main focus at this time.

This is totally NOT needed or wanted to control IBS. Read the diet guidelines so you can find out how to incorporate IF safely.

Don't cut out fruits and vegetables - the trick for IBSers is learning to eat them safely. Smoothies are great, as are some of the fruit and vegetable breads in Heather's EFI book and on the Recipe Board. Additionally, some fruits and vegetables are SF themselves. As for exercise, it's great for IBS, too.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with both these conditions at once, but I don't think combining the two regimens will be a problem. Be sure to read Heather's info outside the Boards - that's the best way to get a handle on the Diet. And I highly recommend you find a copy of "The First Year-IBS" - your local library may have it or you can order it.
Take care and welcome to the Boards.

I cannot believe that I did not think of a dietician! Thank-you! Your quick response and your information are dearly appreciated. I had felt really alone and depressed. Sometimes (most times) illness effects you more than just physically and cramps how you would normally respond to something. Mentally, illness is stressful, which leads to more physical problems. Thank-you! C.M.R.-V.

Thank-you! I did read it and am in the middle of trying it for the first time. I find change (like some people) to be difficult but not impossible. My husband (and family) say that I am stubborn and use to taking care of them. It is difficult to focus so much of my attention on myself. Unfortunately, it is needed. Again, thank-you and I really appreciate your help! C.M.R.-V.
