I'm a bit confused about graham crackers and whether or not they are safe foods. Heather lists keebler graham crackers as safe, but my stores do not sell this brand! We have Nabisco Honey Maid Graham Crackers around here.
So I was wondering, does anyone eat Nabisco Brand Graham Crackers? If so, regular or Low Fat? What flavors, Honey, cinnamon, or chocolate?
If not, what is it that I am to look for in the ingredients list that would signal that is it UNSAFE? That is what really confuses me! How do I know it doesn't contain dairy? Or what other ingredients are dangerous for my tummy!
I'd really appreciate any help...french bread, rice, and chicken are getting boring!
Thanks in advance.

I don't get Keebler here either. I use Nabisco Low Fat Honey Maid. Be Aware that it does have High Fructose Corn Syrup -- which can be a trigger for some people with IBS. I haven't been bothered by it. Specially since it is usually just the crust for something -- and not the main part of a recipe... I go ahead and use them.

Try to get low fat but yes they have HFCS so watch out. Try the natural section of your store for other snack brands. In my natural section there are really good ginger snaps and other crackers/cookies.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Is that the main "bad" thing that is in packaged cookies/crackers. I know we have to look for foods that are low fat, but other than HFCS is there something else to watch out for?
Thanks!

Yes - that and dairy (look for words like milk, whey etc.) Also anything super high in fat.

This stuff should be outlawed. I heard on the news that it's the "major contribution to obesity" in America!
Not only that, but it's my biggest trigger. I can be guaranteed an attack if it's anywhere on the ingredient list. While it's a big hassle checking the back of everything I buy in the grocery store, I still do it -- and hubby helps -- looking for that damn HFCS!
Avoid it like the PLAGUE!

Bev, this drives me nuts! You can find HFCS in the strangest foods. Someone is making a BUNCH of money off this ingredient! I am sensitive to it also and get so angry when I see it listed on something that can't possibly taste bad if it's excluded, IMHO.......grrrrrrrr

In general, for all ingredient lists, I check for:
- any type of meat other than white meat poultry - HFCS - egg yolks or whole eggs - any type of dairy - any form of MSG (MSG is a huge trigger for me) - the percent of calories from fat.
I personally approach graham crackers with a lot of caution. I'm super-sensitive to whole grains and from what I've read graham flour is not as refined as regular white flour.
HTH.
