Hi Beth,
I do this exactly - if I run out of Acacia I pick up some Benefiber at the drug store since it's the only one other than Metamucil we can get in Canada. I never did any "weaning" or anything, just moved back and forth between the two, and I've never had any problems with it. I think the two are quite similar. Hope that helps!

Can I ask why you order the Acacia if the Benefiber works for you? Is it because, like Bamagrl said, financially better in the end to order Acacia?

I just like the Acacia better - the texture and the flavour (or lack therof)... I think it works better for me too, though I've never really given Benefiber a long-term chance so I guess it's hard to say.
That said, (admission time!) my Mom actually sends me money to pay for the Acacia online so happily I don't have to worry about the cost. If/when that changes though, I'll probably seriously consider switching solely to Benefiber (which would be a completely financial decision of course!)

Both Acacia and Benefiber (actually guargum) are "gums."
Hope this is helpful, Beth (or anyone). I won't be gross and start rhyming...lol! no, ROTL! "gum for the bum."
I know, I'm gross...it's totally stupid, but well...I'd better shut up!
Kate, IBS-D (and Benefiber user).
