Hi everyone,

Firstly I wanted to say that I had my dreaded colonoscopy/endoscopy yesterday and was so incredibly nervous about the whole ordeal. I spent the entire night before reading everything on this message board about the procedure, and it honestly got me through it and took a lot of the fear away. So thanks for all your honest postings For anyone about to have it - my prep was easy and I have no recollection whatsoever of the colonoscopy. (btw, IBS was pretty much confirmed, just need results of biopsy)

Anyway, to my question - I am going to a health retreat for 5 days on Sunday to try and get on top of this tummy thing (came on suddenly 10 months ago - for no obvious reason). I hope to destress, exercise and eat better - all I really eat is rice and oatmeal. However, from previous trips to this retreat they only serve small portions of all the foods I find "safe" (as a lot of people are there to lose weight) but offer an abundance of amazing vegetables. It's vegies that hurt my stomach though (amongst other things)- so I'm not sure if I should use this time to try to eat vegetables again, and risk being in pain all week. Or requesting just rice? I wonder if they know any ibs safe recipes, I guess they might. I just don't want to be sick the whole time I'm there - yet I can't imagine being the only one tucking into a big potato or huge bowl of rice. Seeing as this is relatively out of my control (as in, I'm not cooking for myself).. what would be the safest meals to request? Maybe you guys can't offer too many suggestions, I'm just frustrated as I'm sitting here at 2am in pain from being so bloated! I just want to go away and enjoy all their incredible food - not plain rice! I'd also rather I wasn't the only one eating pureed meals either! Perhaps I can just introduce a few vegies each day? Has anyone else gone away to a health retreat to help stabilise their symptoms and de-stress? If so, I'd be curious to hear how you handled the food on offer.

Also - I know this is a new thread, but I have to say I laughed out loud reading some of the posts about boyfriends moving in. Ooh, how I could relate to that!

I'd explain that you have IBS and that you can't eat just veggies. Ask for some white rice, potato, bread or pasta with every meal...and some grilled/steamed chicken fish. Then eat the more SF veggies after some rice (carrots and zucchini for example - remember that as they probably won't be very well cooked to eat them AFTER the rice/whatever). And try a teeny bit of the others...after the SF. I bet they'll help...this diet is pretty darn healthy anyway!

Congrats on surviving the colonoscopy btw!
