Has anyone been tested for parasites? I was reading about this and the symptoms are practically identical. It also said that they are not uncommon in North America, as you can get it from poor hygiene, undercooked meat and untreated water, such as a lake. I've never had a doctor test me for this, I was wondering if any other doctors include this before diagnosing someone with IBS.

They should do! Having said that, parasites are notoriousy difficult to find! If you've had stool sample tests & a colonoscopy, one of the things they would (should?) have looked for is parasites.

I have. My GI doc had that ruled out before he went ahead with a colonoscopy.
My father was also tested. (I mention him because he's had "stomach problems" just like his daughters and other family members.) He had heliobacter pyllori. He's also had the run of stomach tests, but it's never been called IBS.

My GI had me take the antibiotics for 10 days to make sure that it wasn't a parisitic thing, just to be sure. Might not be a bad thing. Unfortunately, I felt better when I stopped the antibiotics and it was then that he gave me the IBS diagnosis. Hugs, Alicia.
