Hey ya'll! I have a terrible cold right now and woke up feeling naseous and almost threw up and had D! I got freaked out and quickly took some pepto bismal... which I'm worried I should have done because maybe there is something in me that needs to come out. Anyway, has anyone ever had a cold with tummy issues like this? I assume it's from all the coughing and maybe swallowing some phlem or something... I started to get real scared and had a cold sweat, then felt even worse... but maybe it was all mental and kind of like a small anxiety attack? This mind body stuff is so fascinating and so hard to figure out!

...I have IBS problems, no matter how stable I am at the time otherwise. In fact, I've got a cold right now, and yep, I'm swinging from C to D and crampy and just lousy. What you have could be a virus, but it's totally possible that it's just a cold-related flareup. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do for it except ride it out, either way.

Feel better soon!

I learned this year that colds are major triggers for me and there is nothing that can be done about it. I relaxed, watched what I ate and took pep caps and tea but still had D the first day back to work (in a BK bathroom ). I want to try light exercise next time I have a cold and see if this does anything. BTW it doesn't matter if I am on meds/cough drops or not, either way I get an IBS flareup.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Good point... I should have added that I, too, have the problems whether I take meds or not, regardless of what kind of meds I take. I think it probably has more to do with the illness itself and mucous than anything we ingest related to our cold symptoms.
