Hello! I am new to this and really want to do things right. I have been trying to follow the soluable fiber diet only for the beginning - this is very hard. I still am bloating after meals. I hate it! I know this is not an instant solution, but any help on how to stay track would be great. If you can just confirm that sticking with SF will work out in the end - ideas on making better meals.
I appreciate it!
Thanks!

Hi and welcome!
I know it's hard to do at first, but definitely stick with it - the results are worth it. Just keep in mind that you should be eating the all-SF diet for 3 or 4 days ONLY, and then you should gradually start adding IF foods and lean protein again. The "breaking the cycle" all-SF diet is designed to do just that: kind of "reboot" your GI tract. As you continue eating safely, adding in more foods according to the IBS diet guidelines, you will start to feel better.
I don't even want to tell you how long it took me to stabilize, because I don't want to discourage you! Just trust me - hang in there, be patient, and stick with it. It's worth it!

I started with the BTC diet a few weeks ago and have been adding IF and protein back into my diet. I'm much more stable than I used to be after following Heather's full diet (no dairy, much less fat, etc.). I'm so glad that this is working!
Good luck!

Another thing....
Try not to get discouraged. It takes your body a little while to adjust especially if your intestines are a mess to start. Be careful what you add back in--go slowly. Keep to the small portions and follow the diet.
It really works!

(I should just cut and paste this list from now on). First of all remember a soluble base is needed but try to add in IF too as much as possible. To avoid bloating (which is not a cure-all and is not instant etc) eat often, don't let yourself get too hungry, eat slowly and in small amounts. I think it is important to eat a little and then drink a little or it seems to me it gets all clogged. Don't eat or drink too much or too quickly. Drink fennel tea in mass quantities, get exercise and pass gas as needed, along with going to the bathroom whenever you think you need to, also try to increase water intake.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
