What type of Magnesium supplement is most effective for helping produce BMs? Citrate, Oxide, Malate, glyconate or a Chelated form of some kind?
Name brands would be helpful too....and amount you take?
I've read contradictory info on which type of magnesium is best for us.
Any advice would be appreciated. Did anyone's doctor give them any reliable advice on this one?
Thanks again, all.

You can try Peter Gillham's Natural CALM....it helps my mother-in-law. She suffers from severe constipation....She bought in at one of those health stores. She gave some to me to try for my nerves, but it, as with everything else, gave me D~!~!! Michelle

Beth, Yes, I'm taking 400mg of Mag citrate a day as I just posted on that other thread. I think it's helping, because I started taking when I was on a lower dose of Paxil and noticed some improvement. -Bob

Take Citrate...it works the best. I have one by NOW, which I got online. Too much will give you D, so start out slow, and gradually increase so you know how much is good for you, everyone can differ.

375mg a day here...with it's calcium component as well. I was told at the health food store to take one that is a blend for better absorption. My blend include malate, chelate and citrate. I order it online 90tabs for $7 - lasts 45 days. I think it helps.

My ND called me this afternoon and told me to go get a high potency digestive enzyme. I also picked up some magnesium citrate- 300mg tabs. I'll let you all know!

Or have you changed? Do you take 375 mg of magnesium part or is that the combined total mg?
Thanks

Did he specify that it be Citrate? How many grams are you going to take a day...and what brand did you get?
I've been taking a chelated form-500 mg a day. It's made by Country Life.

I've started using Nature's Own Cal/Mag...I take two tablets a day..375mg cal and 180mg Mag I think...has a bit of potassium in it too. The liquid from Puritan's Pride was great, just got a bit pricy. When I found I could tolerate a blend in tablet form I switched. So far, so good.

I just brought up this old thread about this question. Magnesium for C
There doesn't seem to be agreement in type or amount. How would we find this out?

Is there any easy answer to any of this? So many opposite opinions. Oxide is supposed to be best because it is least absorbed? But others say Citrate. I think I need to become a scientist in order to figure this all out.
