Found Galaxy Vegan American Cheese slices--dairy free and carrageenan free--at my local HFS. "Yay," I thought to myself. "These cheese slices will make a good snack with crackers." YEAH RIGHT! I took one bite and it was NASTY! I can't believe how terrible it tasted. Now I can say that I have given up on all fake cheeses. FOR GOOD!
A coworker gave me a container of Chocolate Almond Breeze. Even though I try to avoid carrageenan, I decided to give this product a try tonight because I wanted chocolate. WELL! I give this 4 stars, the best dairy-free chocolate milk EVER. It's very creamy and chocolatey and so, so smooth. I had it chilled, but I think I'll try heating it up tomorrow morning. Mmm...pancakes and hot chocolate! I hope the carrageenan doesn't make me sick; I have a feeling that's what has given me gas in the past.
Ah well. I enjoyed the tasty Almond Breeze too much to care atm!

Other than soy parmesan, which isn't bad at all, I CANNOT do soy cheese. It's really just nasty. Even worse, every time I've tried to cook something with it, it just sucks the flavor right out of the rest of the food! I'd rather do without cheese at all (and I have, for well over a year).
Glad to hear the Almond Breeze was a winner, though!

I don't mind the Galaxy moz and Swiss slices. They're okay, but the American and cheddar flavors...yeah, nasty city! Blech.
I was at Whole Foods last week and picked up another brand of fake cheddar. I'll report back when I open the stuff. If it's also disgusting, I'll just live without cheddar cheese, too.

I read that it caused cramps in mice big time.
Let me know how you do with the "milk". It is impossible to find non dairy products without carrageenan...and I'm too chicken to try them since I am so far from stability! You don't know what is causing a problem and what is okay until you aren't in pain anymore...I'm still waiting...
Incidently, Rice Dream makes a chocolate and a Carob drink that does not contain carageenan. I haven't tried them since they contain so much sugar. But, you might want to try it if the carrageenan does prove to be a problem.

I agree re: Almond Breeze--the vanilla is so smooth! It's delicious on the rocks!
However, the carrengeenan gets to me in a nasty way as well. But sometimes...it really is worth it!

It's zero fat and actually the only one I've tried that's good! The mozzarella is pretty good, as is the monterey jack. Uhhh, cheddar is really gross!

Yes, "Tofu-rella" is the brand name. There are a few flavours, including mozzarella, monterey jack, and cheddar.

I had a similar experience trying various real cheese alternatives. I suspect I wasted $20 - $30 on products that tasted gross and I tossed after one bite.
I can't tell where you are located but if you have a Trader Joe's anywhere close to where you live, they have a great soy cheese. It is called Soy Station and it is a blend of three shredded cheeses. It works great for home made pizza or in burritos. I do not think it would be very good cold but melted where it takes on other flavors like in pizza it's very good.
Good luck, Leigh
